Concert to Aid the 2010 National Braille Music Camp
at St Jude's Bowral
Friday 25 June at 10.30am
The Highlands Sinfonia will present its next Music & Luncheon Concert in St Jude’s Church Bowral on Friday 25 June commencing at 10.30am. The proceeds from this concert will go to assist the twenty-fifth annual National Braille Music Camp to be held at Frensham the following week.
The program begins with Haydn’s “Clock” Symphony – so named because of the clock-like motif in the second movement. Also on the program is a Suite of Ancient Airs and Dances by the early twentieth century Italian composer Ottorino Resphigi and a movement from a concerto for Oboe and Violin by J S Bach. Soloists in this latter work will be Orchestra Leader Allan Rooke (violin) and Michelle Biasutti (oboe).
A highlight of the concert will be and opportunity to tap to “Blue Moon” and “Five Foot Two” in a “Twenties Revival Medley” arranged by Mike Butcher and featuring Ian Cooper (piano), Gerry Power (Clarinet) and Mike Butcher (trombone). Ian Cooper, who is himself blind, together with Roma Dix, who is the Sinfonia’s first flute, founded the National Braille Music Camp twenty-five years ago with a goal of helping young blind musicians to read Braille music. Over the years they have encouraged many hundreds of young people develop skills to read and write music both for their enjoyment and to assist with further study. Admission $15 (Concert only) or $20 (Concert & Lunch)
Admission is $20 for lunch and concert or $15 for concert only.
